That does seem quite steep! I'm in a capital city and it costs here £30 each to give notice and £55 for the civil ceremony with two witnesses. If you want to 'hire' one of the actual rooms then it ranges from £90-£120 mid-week and £150-180 at week. For a registrar to attend another venue to marry you is just over £200 mid-week or about £300 weekend or evening.

If she's looking other options maybe consider a humanist ceremony? I'm a photographer so attend a lot of weddings and they seem to be getting much more popular - it's very tailored to what the couple wants and they are usually really lovely as a result. Or maybe they could just have the basic ceremony done and then have a blessing or an unofficial ceremony with all their friends and family at their venue afterwards.

I think that is pretty normal. We paid for a registrar to come out to the hotel on a Saturday so was quite expensive but it was what we wanted.

I know someone who is getting married next year and isn't prepared to pay out that much so they're getting the legal bit out of the way the day before with just a couple of witnesses, then getting a friend to conduct a ceremony in front of their friends and family the next day. It means they can have something more personal to share with everyone.

That's what we're doing, parents and best man/maid of honour on the Friday and then a big do with a close friend running the 'cermony' on the Saturday. You wouldn't know it wasn't a proper service and it means we can have exactly what we want for a fraction of the cost!

Wins for the wedding: membership for a 'wedsite' and app, £35 gift voucher for party supplies shop, £50 worth of hand painted signs, 1kg of heart shaped marshmallows :money:

Costs seem about right to me - I am getting married on a Saturday at 2pm, and it is costing me £660 for the registrar to come to our venue and perform the ceremony. I think this is terribly expensive as the ceremony only lasts an hour or so, especially considering it is only £515 if you get married at any other time on a Saturday.

You can also have a straightforward ceremony at the registry office for £49, or a slightly posher one in the Mayor's reception room for £200. This is in the north west.

Think you may be getting married in the same area as me :)
  • Don't forget the £55 non-refundable deposit youpay to KCC and the £35 per personyou pay to give your notice.... I am getting married in Kent too and was shocked by how much it is

I think ours is coming to around £500 but they come to our venue that's in Lancaster.

We are getting married in North Yorkshire next year and it is costing us £460 for a half hr ceremony, on top of the £25 and £70 fees we have already paid.
We didn't even realise we would have to pay! It's not until you start planning a wedding do you realise how much things cost

Ours was £450 for them to come to the hotel. It would have been £180 if we'd decided to do it in the registry office, regardless if we'd wanted 8 or 80 guests.
