Ok so I have read alot on here about banks not allowing you internet banking or telephone banking when you have gone bankrupt.
Does anyone know why the banks do this?
I use internet and phone banking alot and with co op closing more branches it will come more useful. Obviously I am aware that it all be with the OR agreement.
Just wondered if anyone could put a answer to it.
Thanks

You will be fine with co op, it's only barclays that have this ridiculous policy.
As for why they have this policy, I bet even the policy maker at barclays couldn't give a reasonable explanation! I have read somewhere that it's to do with being able to use the online portal to get access to pre authorised credit approvals, I can't see why that would be available with the basic account and I certainly can't see it on my online banking page!0 -
I suspect it was an unofficial policy operated by Barclays to drive as many BR customers to the CO-OP as they could without actually saying no to BR's. I also suspect that is why the CO-OP threw their toys out of the pram last year complaining they were taking more than their fair share of BR customers.
If you have to go with Barclays - you can have, if you ask - weekly paper statements and text alerts (balance, large deposit or withdrawal alerts but not mobile app banking) I use my cash card at pretty much any shop for cash withdrawals so not being near a bank isn't much of a problem.
I've also stumbled upon a way that allows me to get a current balance by phone even though I'm not registered for phone banking
Once you are discharged (12 mths) you can ask for these services to be reinstated. I was frantic that I had no internet banking but to be fair - as the months go by, I find I miss it less and less.
I also discovered Credit Unions which I highly recommend. I have internet access to that account.0
