Barclays Withholding Internet Banking for a Discharged Bankrupt

Hello,
I am looking for some advice please.
My dad is a discharged bankrupt & currently has a co-op bank account, but due to the closure of his current branch, He cannot keep his coop bank account, as he can only pay in cheques etc at branch & the nearest one to him will be 30+ miles away when his current one closes.
He has successfully opened a basic barclays bank account with a debit card.
He previously did have a business bank account with Barclays prior to him declaring himself bankrupt (he was self employed & the company he was contracted too went into administration & he lost a lot of money).
He was advised that this wouldn't be a problem & would be able to have the full facilities of the basic bank account, ie debit card & internet banking.
He has now been advised that he cannot have internet banking at all due to having a previous account with them prior to his bankruptcy.
My dad is in his late 60's, he's retired & he has mobility problems. He chose barclays due to its acceptance of discharged bankrupts & the location not too far from his home. He does everything online, without internet banking he is really stuck & will find it hard to keep track of his finances.
Is this right that they could with hold this facility? I am also thinking that they are discriminating against him because of his previous bankruptcy was he was discharged from after a year with no penalties.
I just would like some advice before I contact barclays myself on his behalf. Thanks

Unfortunately Barclays can do what they like in regards to internet banking, but usually if you are discharged they do usually allow it. Has he not got a post office near him? where he could pay cheques in to his coop account. Barclays are one of the few banks that will actually give him a bank account, so I don`t see how they are discriminating against him.:pB&SC No. 298

Thanks for your reply.
He has tried to pay at the post office, but he needs the coop paying in envelopes, which he can only get from a branch? He has a supply but not many.
I will contact Barclays & try to appeal their decision.0 -

Ring the CO-OP they will send out as many as is needed.
I get through quite a few a month and my nearest branch is 25 miles away.
Just phone and ask like I do.0 -

Paying in cheques to the Co-op via the Post Office has been a nightmare for me, I'm sorry to say. A local credit union? That would provide the over-the-counter facilities, and many now offer current accounts. Plus you'd be helping the local community.0

I pay in about 10-15 a month, it has never been an issue.
The only time it went wrong, was my fault I left the paying in slip out of the envelope.0 -
I never had a problem either when paying in cheques at the PO. What sort of problems did you encounter?:pB&SC No. 298
