Thinking of joing a union

Hi all
There has been a recent upsurgence of people wanting to join a union in my workplace - poss due to many recent changes in working hours, hols, and other issues.
We do have someone who is behind organising this. The person has been a great advocate for employees in the past but she has handed in her notice and is leaving the co in the next few weeks.
I would trust this person 100% in employee issues and I do think I would join the union but when she leaves next month where are we with someone to take charge of this?

You don't need anyone to 'take charge' of this. I joined a union some time ago, I know one of colleagues is a member too, but we have no formal representation. However, if either of us had a problem we'd be able to contact the union and get help / support / representation from someone outside the workplace.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Is there another colleague who could take on this role as the union workplace representative?
What about you? There's training available and while it may be daunting at first, it will really build your confidence and knowledge. Knowledge is power after all.
Why not contact the union head office and ask for advice? With enough members the union could press for recognition to be at meetings with senior management and HR when discussing restructuring and reorganisation.Saving money right, left and centre0
