electoral roll problem

my daughter and her boyfriend moved into a flat a few months ago renting it to begin with - when the forms came through to go on the electoral roll they filled them in straight away as they knew that it was important for when they wanted to get a mortgage, they are hoping to start applying for a mortgage before the end of the year. they have rung the council as they are coming up as red on a credit check for the electoral roll part and the council have confirmed that they are on it for their new address BUT it won't show up officially until February - they have said there is nothing they can do to help which doesn't seem very fair - any ideas or thoughts anyone ???

The electoral roll is not updated between September and February each year to allow Councils to gather the data for the next release, which takes place in February.

As long as they were on the electoral roll at their previous addresses, the last few months should make little difference if they have evidence of address for the period since they moved to their new address.

If they are paying for a CRA subscription service which alleges it provide a credit score (amongst other things) tell them to stop paying for it. Lenders calculate their own scores from credit files and the application data.

In 29 years, I have never taken any notice of what the CRAs peddle as gospel, the mythical credit score. Plenty of "999s" on Experian get turned down for a mortgage as Experian does not record information on their employment, or the lack thereof.

no they are not paying for anything - and yes they have both been on the electoral roll while they were living at home, we're just a bit worried that the electoral roll part of the credit check might have the deciding vote and let them down through no fault of their own ??

and they are paying council tax at their new address so clearly they're living there or does that not make any difference ??

Paying council tax makes no difference and this is unlikely to be a major issue if they are on the electoral roll at their previous addresses.

so at the moment to the credit check people it looks like they don't exist even though the lady at the council said she can see them on it but she can't tell the credit check people that ??

The 2012 electoral roll sees them registered at their previous addresses.

The 2013 electoral roll will see them registered at their new address. However, the search of their previous addresses will see them registered there at the appropriate time.

The record is not wiped clean each year. A record of earlier years is maintained.

The CRAs do not buy the register until it has been updated in February.

...presumably because they are not on the electoral roll at their current/that particular address?

The "red" stuff normally only occurs on a subscription service. Are you sure they aren't signed up for something like this?

If they are, suggest to them they obtain their statutory files at £2 each from the three CRAs, as it's only the raw data from these seen by lenders;-

It's flagging as currently they are not registered.

As Kingstreet has already pointed out. Electoral history is maintained indefinately by the CRA's. So the lack of registration at the current time is not an issue.
