Temp agency refusing to pay travel expenses

My partner recently started working via a temp agency. She was told when she started that her travel expenses would be covered, and even that she would have a lunch allowance. Unfortunately nothing in writing so I think I know what you are all going to say...

Tried to claim first month's travel and was basically told no. Is there anything we can do?

i know when i worked through an agency they did it through there tax system so it meant i paid 'less tax' and they said more would have been in my pocket, but it didn't work out like it sadly. Unless it is in writing you may not get it back sadly as agencies say whatever to get you on there books. we are all just a pound sign to many things

OP didn't she get a copy of the agencies handbook when she registered?

Everything she has had from them has been online. They have a page for submitting expenses on their web portal thingy, which she tried to use. When it didn't work rang them up and they just said no she is not getting expenses. They are supposed to be looking in to it but I'm not expecting a sudden change of heart.
