The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is working on a project about payday loans (small, unsecured loans to be paid back in a short time-frame) and logbook loans (where someone has secured a loan against a vehicle).

It has asked research company ESRO to carry out some interviews to better understand the experiences of consumers around these two types of loan.

If you’re happy to take part in the research (or would like more info) and you fit the following situation:
  • You've personally taken out a payday loan in the past 3-6 months, or a logbook loan within the last 6-12 months
  • Live within the UK (England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland)
please email financialresearch@esro.co.uk with brief details and a phone number to get in touch.

Individuals that are chosen will be offered £100 as a thank you.

All of your information will remain confidential and anonymous.

ESRO abide by all Market Research Society (MRS) ethical standards.

  • whilst i never use PDL and hope never have to,used properly they can actually be no more expensive than unauthorised OD,or a cash advance on a CC
  • I hope they only give the £100 to people who have repaid their payday loans!!

    Hi Nice Weather For Ducks,
My name is Becky, I'm a researcher at ESRO. We're not making any judgments about whether or not people have re-paid their loans - although I take your point. We're just interested to find out about people's experiences across a wide range of different circumstances and lender types.
So far, most people I've interviewed have said they were putting the money towards Christmas presents!
    B.
  • We're particularly interested in hearing from anyone from Scotland, Wales of Northern Ireland - so if you're out there and have recently taken out a DMP, Logbook Loan or Payday Loan then please get in touch!

ay I ask, how will you deal (statistically) with the bias that you introduce through a financial incentive?

By its very nature it will skew your sample towards people in financial difficulties, so you won't be getting a representative output from your data.

Though are there really any people not in financial difficulty who would get involved with pdls, I'd be surprised if there were. Unless I'm missing the irony.
