Hello,
My son is Pokemon daft - desperately wants the new Pokemon X and Y. But handily it's only available on the 2DS or 3DS.
He's had a regular DS then a DSi and I'm really reluctant to shell out for another version, 3ds or a 2ds..
Anyone have any experience of the 2DS, is it any good or would it be more worthwhile to spend a little extra on the 3DS? Will he be able to play his DSi games on the 2/3DS?

I'd shell out more for a 3DS personally, then at least you can take advantage of the 3D stuff (even if it is a little gimmicky). Looks like a 3DS is only about £15-20 more than a 2DS at the moment anyways.
And yes, you can play DS games on a 2/3DS.0 -
I agree with King_Nothing - it's probably worth going that little step further for a 3DS, if only for the much better (IMHO) clamshell design0

thanks both, yep i don't like design of the 2ds at all....

Try a gaming retailer that might allow to trade in your son DS, that way you'll be able to get some money off. You probably won't be to get a huge amount though, but better than nothing.0

we've gone for the 2DS, mainly because dd is still young (only 6) and the 2ds is more robust than the 3ds. also don't think the 3d is recommended for children that young so no point getting the 3ds.0

I went for a 2ds for my children aged 4 and 6.
The reason for this being that i dont think 3d is really advisable to have on for young children. Its have even been recommended that the 3ds is not suitable for under 7's.
I tried the 3ds before and this gave me a headache after a very short space of time.
The build quality i think will be more alot more sturdy compared to the clam style design of the 3ds which after time does become worn out.
I would advise you look at reviews on the 2ds on Youtube and i think you will be honestly be able to gain a good opinion on it from there.0 -
I would go for the 3DS personally I would trade in the other 2 towards the 3ds to reduce the cost.
The 3DS will play DS and 3DS games.
if you are worried about the 3D or your son is too young, there is a slider on the side of screen to turn down or turn off the 3D or a more secure option you can turn it off in the Parental Control settings.
You might even find some games you like.0 -
It tough between the 2DS and 3DS, I use to repair DS's and the amount I got with broken hinges due to small children braking them.
So for young children the 2DS has a win there, but on the negative you can't close it to protect the screens.
The 3D feature is great if you ask me but as mentioned it isn't recommend for young children, but you can disable it on a 3DS under the parental contols so it can't be used.
I recently got a new 3DS form play.com for £94.99, the offer isn't there right now but offers are popping up.
So no clear winner, but 3DS can do 3D if wanted and can protect itself better, but it woud be much harder work to snap a 2DS in 2.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Dont know if this would be much help for people.
But Game are currently giving £50 off the price of a 2ds/3ds or 3ds xl if you trade in a DSI or DSI xl.
The DSI has to be in good working condition and the deal unfortunately is only running until the 28th November.
But certainly seems like a good idea if you have a DSI knocking around.0
