email wins - how to spot them!

I know this may sound like a daft question but is it obvious when you get an email win??
I had one from the Philips headphones I won but I stumbled on it "You Need to See this:" was the email title. Now that I have been comping for a number of months I am getting a lot of newsletters and general crud emails to sift through. I am pretty consistent to always opt out of the mailing lists if possible.
Do you have any tips and tricks to pass on to new members?
I have seen the facebook winners search thread and often search google for my name and usernames "winner" "congratulations" etc.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks and good luck to all of you!

you can also use a search tool on your emails which would filter out just as google would if you just search your email for congratulations or winner you will get all the emails containing those words hope this is what you mean x0

I'm with hotmail and created a new e-mail folder so that emails that have certain words such as "congratulations" and "winner" are sent straight there.
I can only think of one email (that i know of,) that didn't end up in that folder.0 -

I do the same (but with yahoo) - set up email filters for the words congratulations, winner, won and prize. Not just for the subject line, but for the body of the email too. I then open any emails that end up in there. It puts around 25% of all my emails in there to be looked through, but that's a lot less than all of them!0 -

much appreciated!0 -
Thanks for the tips - I have outlook and have now set up filters on subject for the keywords likely. I could not find a way to do the contains words in the message detail so may have to run searches manually anyway for those
Thanks for the help compers!0 -

Hey,
I realised that for hotmail i've only set it up so it filters my email subject (probably explains why the one wem i found didn't make the folder.) I'm not sure how you can have hotmail scan and sort the whole email (other than searching,) but here are the guidelines for filtering the subject.
On the left where it says "folders," scroll down and select "new folder" - you can label this comps (or whatever you like!)
Then click on the folder and it will say, "Did you know that you can drag messages into folders? You can also make rules to move messages here automatically."
Click on "make rules."
Step 1 is about messages the rule applies to.
Click on subject, then contains/contains word/is, and type in "congratulations" (for example.)
Step 2 is the action you want to apply.
Select move to inbox, then click on the down arrow, then select the folder you wish to have the emails sent to.
Hope that makes some sense!0 -

I don't think you can filter on the whole email, rather than the subject, but before you delete them, you can use the search box to search on key words, such as congratulations.0 -
I have a folder for "congratulations" etc. Isn't it extremely annoying when you see what you expect to be a winning email but it turns out to be something else!:mad:2014 Losses - Front Door Key, Premier League, Luis Suarez0

Anyone who is using Gmail, you can filter emails by words in the whole body of the email - just go to the little cog button at the top right, settings, filters, then enter the words to filter by (e.g. prize, winner) in the 'has the words' box. Then you can select what action to apply to emails with those words (e.g. always mark as important, never send to spam).2018 wins: Aspinal of London jewellery box, Boudavida gym outfit, HP Pavilion laptop, The List party tickets, All Points East festival tickets, Kiehls moisturiser, By Terry cc serum, Nars Liquid Bronzer, Benefit highlighter, Nars illuminator, Fresh advanced lip trio set, Cetaphil sample set, signed copy of My Absolute Darling by Gabriel Tallent0

I tend to look at the email addresses as it's usually a good indication if it's Sophie.Smith@blahblah (for example) as it's from a person rather then a no-reply email, however completely contradictory to that was my recent win which was from contact@blahblah - so happy I checked it!
Although I have quite frequently ignored "You need to see this" sort of emails as I always assumed they were marketing... so thank-you for the heads up on that! :j0
