Just a quick word of advice
I was going to buy a t-shirt online from the Jacamo website. Before you buy it asks you to register which I duly did, however once you've gone through the simple process of registration it directs you back to their site which is where I noticed a problem. Once you've registered with the site it opens a credit account for you, and gives you a credit amount, obviously as an undischarged bankrupt this could have consequences. We couldn't find any mention of applying for a credit account during the registration process (my girlfriend went through the process as well to check). I've emailed them to request they cancel my account but have not had a reply as of yet. I just thought I'd mention it on here just to let people know
Cheers..

From what I remember, You can have credit upto £500 as an undischarged bankrupt before you have to inform them you are bankrupt!0

When you registered you were asked to read the terms and conditions, which very clearly state...speedyblue66 wrote: »We couldn't find any mention of applying for a credit account during the registration process (my girlfriend went through the process as well to check).
Why didn't you (both) read the terms and conditions?Your Credit Summary
The following Terms and Conditions relate only to new customers registering online. If you are an existing customer, please sign in to view the Terms & Conditions that relate to your own account.
Credit Agreement Terms
The terms applying to the credit we provide are detailed below. We will send you a credit agreement specific to you.
The Agreement provides an ongoing credit account
Additionally, you were also asked to tick a box at the side of this statement...
Why would you (both) tick a box confirming you'd read the documents when you hadn't?I confirm I have read An Explanation of a Credit Account & Standard European Consumer Credit Information.0 -
I do not have to explain to anybody why I did or wouldn't read anything or tick any boxes. My post was intended to inform people who may have made the same mistake that I had and found myself unintentionally applying for a credit account. It is not clear when browsing their site that when adding an item to your bag that you will be having to register for a credit account by default. As per 99% of people I did not read the t&c's. A lot of sites that ask you to register do not open a credit account, but merely allow you to register with the site.0

Why is it a problem? As stated you are allowed credit upto £500 without informing the creditor and if you fail the credit check then your account will not be opened anyway. Just because you are BR does not mean you cannot have credit although it is quite difficult to obtain it.:pB&SC No. 298

What if someone had an account with (say) Jackamo before they went bankrupt? Therefore, so long as you didn't owe any £ at the time of bankruptcy, could you still have a credit acct, because you are not opening a new one, just continuing the old one? Or, in other words, you are not seeking to obtain (new) credit for more than £500, which isn't allowed?0 -

I meant, what if you were given credit more than £500 BEFORE BR, but never used it? Didn't owe catalogue co any money before BR hence not in BR statement, & then after BR you decided to buy goods up to the previously given higher limit? That way you are not "obtaining credit" as already been given (pre BR) the higher value credit level.0 -

If you decide to buy items you would be using your credit at that point. So long as you stay below £500 you will be adhering to the terms of the bankruptcy order.
Hope this helps.

I had the situation where I had a JD Williams account before going BR with I think from memory a small £200 credit limit, which I had never used.
Around 2 years ago I tried logging in and was surprised to see I still had the credit account so did an order. I have ordered a few things over the years and now have a high credit amount and a good rating for payment with them.
I tried to order a bed for my son through Very and they turned me down point blank though and refused to speak to me about it.0 -
Surely someone in your situation should be the "1%" that read T&Cs then !!!0
