Will these old PC games work on Windows 7?

Options
I got some PC games from my childhood, my current laptop is windows 7 with intel graphics and 4GB ram. I was wondering if they would work? I can't afford a big gaming rig for the top modern games. cheers.

  • Yeah they'll work, if you have any problems you can run them in compatibility mode. Some great games in there!
  • Have you seen https://www.gog.com?

You can get some old classics that work on modern computers (although you do have to pay for them). I've relived many happy childhood memories replaying classics such as Baldur's Gate & Dungeon Keeper for a couple of dollars a game!

  • You'll just need to make sure your config.sys and autoexec.bat scripts are setup correctly

You should be able to get them all working, give them a go.

If one doesn't work give it a google as there is usually patches etc.

I remember play Project IGI and Kingpin back in the day.

Another good golden oldie I know does work is Sanatarium.

My phone has 1012 times the RAM of my first PC and 8000 time the storage capacity. Dear me. The games of my childhood are Lemmings, Mega lo mania and Sim City.

BRING BACK LEMMINGS! Sorry for hijacking your thread BTW :) I still remember being blown away by playing Quake for the first time

From experience on RA2/Yuri, I did have display issues in that the menus wouldn't load, even in compatibility mode. This was caused by the Intel integrated graphics at the time, as intel stopped updates for what I had.

That said, I upgraded my GPU to a 660ti a few months ago, and a different spec GPU card that was much lower than this worked fine to resolve that too.

If they're old DOS games download dosbox (GPL / free software) which will run just about everything I've thrown at it over the years (without having to mess around too).

Man, I loved Mega-lo-Mania. I played it on an Amiga simulator about a year ago and lost about 6 hours of my life immediately ! :rotfl:

I also used to have the "Act on Instinct" music track from Command and Conquer as my ringtone for years. The amount of complete strangers who recognised it was amazing.

As for lemmings, here is a quick fix:

    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.
