  • I am most definitely on the case of doing that!

Thank you all for your advice. Talking it through has definitely helped.
I intend to keep pressing this person. So perhaps if I pay it off I will eventually get the money back.

It's a shame it's had to come to this but I will be much more careful with things around the home, even when it comes to family... Hard lesson learned!
  • Why do you still have the account open if you don't use it?
  • ...it's a savings account. The idea is when I have savings they will go in there...

It's no longer open anyway. I closed it as soon as this came to light.

Its pretty easy to forget about an old account. I recieved a letter a couple of weeks ago telling me that I had not used XX account for 14 years, if I took no action then the money would be given to charity or go in a branch to sort it out.

I closed the account. It turned out it was an account opened for me by a relative many yeras ago and I had no reccolection of it and never used the account.

When was the loan used and where was the money spent? Are there transactions from any places on your local high street / in your town?

Shop CCTV could be checked to see if anyone you recognise walks up to cash points / into stores at or around the times of the transactions on your account. Likely they would only give the CCTV to the police though, so you'd need to report it.

Other than that you're going to struggle to show it's not you.
    What will your verse be?
