Im in the market for a new bed and in doing my research have come up with the following ideas...
Having visited a few stores, Dreams for example...and having tested out a few bed's i've got a good idea of what kind of bed I want.
Having done an internet search for the chosen bed, The 'rosebury' made by Sealy, I've noted that only Dreams do this bed.
I was wondering if Dreams and all the other big bed sellers have the various bed manufacturers create versions of their respective product line unique for the various sellers etc.
Essentially they are the same bed with a different trim or top fabric.
For example the rosebury by dreams:
http://www.dreams.co.uk/brands/sealy/rosebury-mattress
The mattress is traditionally hand tufted with 1400 zoned pocket springs within Sealy’s patented unicase system providing edge to edge support. Sealy ‘Smart Fibres’ are used to keep the mattress cool, fresh and dry – these fibres are endorsed by Allergy UK.
Luxurious fillings include a deep layer of zoned latex for outstanding comfort and support meaning you’ll go to sleep quicker and stay asleep for longer..
Specifications:
- 1400 Pocket spring mattress
- Non-allergy producing
- No need to turn
- Micro quilted pillow top mattress
- Comfort grade 2 - Firm (each company has there own grading system)
is essentially the same as:
http://www.sealy.co.uk/sorrento.php
1400 Zoned Pocket Spring System.
A deep layer of Innergenic Latex
for outstanding comfort and
pressure relief.
1400 Zoned Pocket Spring System.
Eco-friendly Tencel fibres help
keep you cool and dry.
which is the same as:

Sealy Francesca Posturepedic Pocket Ortho 1400 Latex Mattress

Deep layer of Innergetic Latex, naturally alleviating pressure points
Orthopaedic Support
Mattress cover includes Tencel, technical fibres that cool and keep you dry, whilst feeling luxuriously soft and silky.
Medium/firm Feel
The listed price is £1200, but on sale for £699.95
I figured this was a fantastic money saving opportunity and wanted to share my idea....

Nice idea, but unless you manage to get hold of a complete and full breakdown as to whats in the mattresses then you've never going to do a full comparison.
There are at least 4 different gauges of spring within pocket springs, going from quite hard to quite soft. Just saying it's got 1400 springs is not a like for like comparison.
Also the type of interliner use can be different, the interliner is the 1st filling place on top of springs.
How thick is the latex? What type of latex as there is at least 2 different types.
So I salute your research, but it's just never going to be that easy to compare mattresses like for like.
Dreams approach the manufactures and say right what models do you have. Ok we like model X but we don't want to pay that price, what can you do for us. So the supplier says ok you can have it for this cheaper price but we'll going to have to remove something to achieve price you are after. Hence similar but different.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Hi Nile, thank you for moving my post to the appropriate forum...
I've since spoken to one of the retailers who have confirmed my suspicions...
advising that some of the bigger stores such as Dreams or Dreams will ask the manufacturer to create an exclusive bed for them, which will consist of a new name, foot label and perhaps a different fabric or fabric pattern on the top. Essentially the internal construction of the bed is exactly the same...
Thus, the bed I looked at in Dreams for sale at £1300, I found online with another name and different top fabric weave for £615.0 -
Also bear in mind that Sealy is now owned by Silentnight.
They are not going to be great value for money, as they are massive organisation with massive overheads to boot. Who pays for the Head Office, company cars etc... Not them, the consumer does.

Hi Metso,
I've also been looking at the Rosebury, and I too was thinking of opting for the Francesca directly. Was this the mattress that you went for?0
