Hi nellybee,
Did the quote include them providing an EPC? You need one for the fit application and your house needs to be a D or above to claim the higher fit rate. I'm not sure if this message is being made clear to people thinking of going solar.0 -
You need to be sure that you are staying in the property for long enough to get your investment back, I'm not seeing any signs that PV panels are adding value to properties when sold.
And also that you still have money available for those unexpected things - no point getting PV panels and then having to take out an expensive loan to deal with an emergency.
You can check if your property already has an EPC by going onto the govt website at epcregister.com and searching with your postcode. As they are valid for 10 years worth checking before getting a new one.
And if you currently don't have a D rating or better on the EPC, you can get the EPC redone after the panels are installed and before the FIT application is made to improve the EPC rating. A new EPC at £60 is a small price to pay for the higher tariff0 -
I'm in the same position as OP and as I work from home I will maybe benefit more than most as I can put on my appliances when the sun shines. I'll also be retiring in the next four or so years, so will have plenty of opportunity to manage my free power well. I would hope the investment would also add to the value of my property in the next few years - these increasing prices concentrate the mind awfully! I will be ordering my own system tomorrow - can't wait!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
