Thrifty Christmas Wishlist?

  • Growing your own veggies might be an interesting thrifty project for 2014 - even small space gardening with everything in tubs and pots can be very rewarding

The setting up costs can be a bit off putting - buying a decent fork, spade, wheelbarrow, large pots etc. Maybe these could be suggested as presents for the thrifty year ahead?

I have asked for things that will save me money longer term. Like a flask to put any hot water in that has been boiled. I will also be able to take hot soup to work with me.
I want a new fluffy bath robe to wrap in. My husband never feels the cold and the kids are out a lot of the time so I hope it will stop me putting the heating on.
I would love a dehydrator but it is out of my price range.

I just thought, do you have rechargeable batteries and charger? That saves me a fortune.

  • What about craft things? The initial outlay can be quite expensive. Do you want to take up knitting or crochet? Or sewing - perhaps money towards a sewing machine. All very old style as you can then make next year's pressies.

  • This is what I asked for my birthday from my hubby last year, it's amazing, has saved me an absolute fortune in electric, keeps the food warm for hours, doesn't burn and you don't have to stand for hours over a hot stove stirring soup to stop it burning :)

I would not be without mine :)

It's gone up a tenner or so since I got mine, may be cheaper on Amazon?

Mine is above the staircase, and I think we have saved so much money as I haven't had to use the dryer for about 6 years!
  • Almost all stores have online catalogues now.

Why not have a browse through some of them for inspiration (e.g. Lakeland for household/kitchen items, B&Q for DIY stuff, or John Lewis for a wider range of things)?

I have relatives, and friend's who are asking me what I would like for Christmas - some giving me specific budgets such as £40 from the in-laws. I don't need/want anything at the moment as it has just been my birthday yet I also feel rude asking for money, and don't want store specific vouchers...

Why not think about Amazon gift certificates? Or something you would use to help your thrifty life like a jam (maslin) pan or money towards a dehydrator?

Or if you don't like to "ask" for money, but they want to give it to you anyway, thank them graciously and tell them you will put it into your "treats account" for spending when you see / do something you really want, and then send a photo of the trip/ concert/ item when you spend the gifted money.
