I am in the process of gathering the information for last years tax return, and noticed that i have'nt recieved a mortgage statement for my buy to let mortgage. I phoned Bristol and West and explained the situation. They said they will post a replacement statement to me but it will cost £20.00. I explained to them that I had not recieved the original, but a 'team manager called Kim' said that they were happy that they had sent one out, and they were allowed to make this charge for another statement. Is this true, and what proof do I have that one was sent out in April? Also if one was sent out, and was lost in the post, why am I being held responsible? I asked Kim if the new certificate gets lost in the post, will I have to pay another £20.00 for a third one. He said we would have to wait until this happens before a decision colud be made on another charge. Has anyone else had this sort of trouble, and what did you do about it. I have had to send a cheque for £20.00 because I need the information, but would like to reclaim it if possible. look forward to recieving some help.
thanks

Is it not the legal duty of the BS to provide a statement?
If they cannot prove they sent it, (by proof of posting) then surely the onus is on them to provide a new form. Get advice from your tax office about their obligation; maybe they can breathe down their necks for you.0 -
This is what happens when a Building Society becomes a bank !0

But you don't need a statement to prepare your tax return; you need to know the amount payable during the tax year which they must have told you in advance before you paid them?0
