I am looking a car for a first time driver .Nothing new and expensive .
Any tip welcome .

Budget?

Fiesta's are good, not too big, not too small, the older model is fairly cheap, nice to drive and fairly economical fuel wise. Then there are Jazz's, Ka's, Clio, Corsa, Pixo's.

Charles Hurst seems to be the one to avoid but the one mentioned most times in terms of satisfaction was Shorts of Ballylisk. That's in your area isn't it?

They're a family run business and have been going for at least 40 years. My neighbour who's 76 always buys his cars there and has just bought a very clean 6 year old Fiesta for £3,000.

Worth a visit anyway I would say? If you don't know how to get to it say so and I'll tell you. It used to be in my hunting grounds in days of yore.

My son will be 17 soon and we are looking for a small car, easily insured and taxed. if you look on usedcarsni.com they have citroen C1's, Toyota Aygos, Peugot 207, all group 1 insurance and a 2007/2008ish car is advertised for less than £3000. These cars are also only £20 a year to tax

I hope you don't mind me repeating the information given by Ballyblack?

Don't buy second hand French cars.

I have nothing against French cars per se but if somebody like Ballyblack is issuing advice like that I'd heed him.

Have you considered a vw polo, reliable car and they go on for years. also tend to hold value well so you probably would have to go for an older model than if you were to buy a Clio or something. Honda Jazz another good small car but suppose it depends what style and how small you want it.

What about a Yaris? A friend of mine has one that's about 13 years old. She's had it from new and had no problems with it.
