:hello:
Hello all.
My DS is going to Kentwell Hall next week, and he has to dress in appropriate Tudor costume. I've made his floppy hat, have a vest with a brand spanking new v in it and some jogging bottoms tucked into football socks for breeches! :rotfl:
However, I need to sew him a waistcoat type thing, and I haven't a clue where to start! Do any of you lovely people know where I could find a pattern, or could advise the best way to go about doing it without a pattern?
Many thanks

Is this any good?

If you're not confident, just do the front part with straight lines.0 -
Do try ebay - under crafts, then sewing, then patterns. There are costume patterns headings in some of the shops and if you ask nicely they may send it v v quick.
Depending on the waistcoat, would it be worth checking round the charity shops for something you can adapt? And they sometimes have patterns as well.
I am sure someone out there will be able to point you in the direction of sewing forums, perhaps via Yahoo. I subscribe to a knitting newsletter via About.com and they have free knitting patterns.

Why not start with the pattern that LizD supplied, make it out of paper, check that it fits your child before cutting into any fabric.
You must be local to me!! (Kentwell is only up the road).... for info, although I suspect I am too late to tell you this, Mill House Fabrics in Sudbury are selling a range of 'Re-enactment specials, Tudor' fabrics just for people doing what you are doing!
Good luck. I am sure he will enjoy it hugely!0 -
Thank you every one for your advice and help. I've had a bit of a touch actually, a friend of mine works for debenhams, and managed to pull a waistcoat out from a children's sample sale! It's aged 6 (my DS is 9, but wears 12) so I've just spent the evening unpicking the side seams and pinning in some cordrouy material as a gusset. The pinned version fits him lovely

Hopefully he'll enjoy the experience enough to make this all worth it!!!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 360
