At the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month - the guns fell silent.

We should never forget the sacrifice of all those young men back then, and all the men a women even today, who give their lives so that we can be free.

how come everyone else knows the name of their dpd driver apart from me
  • Strange how silence in some places feels more emotional than others...

I was in a shopping centre yesterday when they had a 2 minute silence at 11am. Everyone stood still, no chattering, no music or husle and bustle that you'd usually expect it was such a sureal and emotional experience.

Thank you to all who observed today's silence.

Like many of you, it's important to me, as I used to be in the TA for many years and have many friends, both TA who volunteered to serve, and ex regulars, and have heard many sad memories.

My DS is also at College doing a Public Services course and many of his tutors are ex military so I know they will all be not only observing the silence, but feeling the true meaning of it all. :A

just been down the local school for the memorial service - it was so moving, over 800 students totally silent for the whole of the assembly, just the house leaders talking about the local soldiers who died in the great war that their houses are named after. (Each year on the french trip they go and lay wreathes on the war graves the soldiers are named on.) teens get bad press but they are all good kids and have respect where it is due.

didnt realise youd all moved house over the weekend i just thought youd gone quiet.

hope everyone is well, hugs and good wishes where needed
