I had another thread re being off with Fibro and went back on phased yesterday for the first time.
I found out that everyone in the office (apart from me) was given the opportunity to put their names 'in a hat' to see whether they are allowed holidays over christmas. Our department is only allowed 5 people off each day in between xmas and new year so everyone put their name down for which days they might like and it was 'drawn' to make it fair.
I did not get the opportunity so I haven't got any time off over Christmas in addition to xmas day and boxing day. I appreciate I may not have been one of the 'chosen' ones anyway but it seems wrong that they can just forget about me because I was off sick with a chronic condition.
I honestly feel like a part time spare part in my office and this just takes the biscuit!
Fed up!

This type of thing could be deemed as discrimination under the equality act but its likely an innocuous mistake.
Not alot you can do bar raise a grievance but what would you gain from that? Very little IMO but make a note of it in case you need it later on and move on with integrating yourself back into the workplace.
A few other thoughts, do they do this holiday thing yearly, as much as they should have asked you could you have asked them to be put in the draw?Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
thats very unfair but if you did get the draw rerun someone who lost when they previously thought they had won would hold a grudge0
-
If you were off when it was drawn it was probably just an innocent oversight. Sorry to say, but you need to forget about it and move on.0

Did they know, when they did the draw, that you would even be back at work by Christmas?DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

As above, they may have thought you were going to still be off on sick leave. To be honest I would feel aggrieved if one of my collegues was off on the sick (regardless of the reason) and they returned and had the plum days off and I had to work.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
Likely just an oversight. Had you made any attempts to indicate that you wanted certain days off?0

Put your holiday requests in and take it from there.
How much do you have left and what's the holiday year. if Jan to Dec not a lot of time to take what's left.0 -
They knew I would be back as I had popped in for a wellbeing meeting and confirmed.
I appreciate it is probably an oversight but still doesn't seem fair. I shan't kick up a fuss though.
I don't mean to be funny but why should being off sick with a chronic illness prevent me from being given the chance to get the 'plum' days? I should have been given the same opportunity as everyone else.0 -
