Tenth Anniversary 1,000 Posts Name Dropper I've been Money Tipped!

I have just spent ages applying for a job I really want, spoke to them on the phone, tailored my cover letter and CV to the role and sent off the email.

I have only forgot to attach my CV :eek::eek:

What do I do? Should I send another email apologising and attaching it, or wait until they contact me to ask about it?

I am so mad with myself, it is a basic error and now I am sure I have blown it as who wants to employ some one who makes a mistake like that. I really could cry :(:mad:

Why do I have to make this error on a job I really wanted, I have never done it before!

  • Yes, it happens to all of us. You can even try a little humour - find the email you sent, choose reply to all and perhaps something along the lines of:

"Please accept my apologies, but in my haste to apply for what I believe to be the perfect role I managed to omit my CV from my email."

I agree. Anyone who hasn't ever forgotten to actually attach the attachment they said they had attached hasn't ever used email :) It's probably bigger in your mind than it is in theirs. It won't be the first time, it won't be the last....

Thanks everyone. I know it happens when I worked in a office it happened all the time, I did it myself plenty of times. However it should not happen when applying for a job! (especially one that is for office work) I have sent it now and just hope for the best that they will not penalise me for it.

My day is not getting better, I have just rung about another job for an application pack and they have given out their quota already :( the job was only advertised this morning, I didn't see it earlier as I was busy applying for this one.

It's only lunchtime so you are only half way through the day! Write off the morning and plod on with the afternoon. Have a cup of tea, breathe and then get back to it.
    Chin up.

OP you just resend the whole thing and or try to recall the 1st email

I wouldn't have wasted time posting on here :)

In future, may I recommend Gmail? It has a cool Labs feature that alerts you if you forget an attachment. It searches your email for phrases like "is attached" and checks to see if a file really is attached - if not, it pops up a box asking if you forgot. A longer-term fix to forgotten CVs. :)

You cannot recall mail externally, also in doing so if external they risk further embarassment because the external entity will receive a message saying they want to recall it, so you look an idiot for that but then a further idiot for trying to recall a message from over the www you can never recall.

You can recall if internal but even then that is not failsafe and guaranteed.

OP, just an aside, a rick I leanrt is whenever sending an email and you mention the word attach or if you are sending a letter and think of the cheque, attach the attachment/cheque there and then. Then continue your email/letter. Always do it at the thought or mention of it, never failed for me.

because the stressed person receiving your emails may just discard the original if there's no attachment!

I'd be nice and email you back to ask for it, but I'm often the exception ...

  • I applied for a job a couple of weeks ago and was to email off to the employer to ask for an application form. They emailed back referring to an attached application form, but there was no attachment. Then they sent the form the next day. And the way they sent the email it showed everyone's email address who applied for the job.

I'm sure if I made the mistake of forgetting to attach my cv, they would have deleted my application straight away.
