Holiday entitlement

Am after some feedback please, I start a new job on Monday, the place where I will be working has an Xmas shut down - doing a rough fag packet calculation if I pro rata my holiday entitlement up to 1st January 2014 I will be a few days short to cover the shutdown, does this mean I will have money automatically taken off me?
Seems a bit unfair for new starters coming into the business whom haven't had the chance to accrue enough holidays and subsequently lose money.

Youre not actually losing money because you haven't earned it.
Presumably, if you have been in another job you will have accrued holiday entitlement there and have been paid it on leaving.
On the other side of the coin, it would be unfair to companies having to pay people who have not earned holiday pay, So in effect being paid for doing nothing.
You may be able to negotiate with the company to be paid for the days and then take it out of your future entitlement, lots of companies do this.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
And until you start, you don't know what their policy is on the Christmas shut down and new starters.Signature removed for peace of mind0
