When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Moooooooorning! Hello Friday, I've been waiting for you! :) Wow feels great to have got to the end of the week! Hurrah, rejoice, get through the day & we are on home ground :D

Right DFW things for the day:

* checked banking
* got paid £3.85 from Quidco. Wasn't expecting that so it was a very pleasant surprise :T
* did VSP and will update sig
* all meals from stores
* soup out of freezer for dinner
* toast & cream cheese for lunch
* call some skips for a quote
* take note of mileage
* try to get through a mountain of work!
* check tyre pressure
* grab some drinks & snacks to take to a quiz we are going to tonight
* update spreadsheet with yesterday's spends

That's my lot! Better get my skates on! May the force be with you all today :D

  • I was still feeling pretty bad yesterday too Bohochange13 but like you I'm back on track now. Glad you are feeling better too.

    Today:
    Checked bank - nothing in there until Monday but I have no need to spend all weekend
    Bags are packed for weekend with parents
    Finishing work at 2.30 to reduce driving time (one less journey) and avoiding temptation to spend
    B & L from stores and meal plan
    Dinner at parents
    Heating off as not going to be in until Sunday
    Charge phone at work
    Rest and enjoy family time

    That's me done! Unlikely that I'll have phone or internet signal over weekend so phone will be off and I will be having a complete break from life until Monday.

    Have a great weekend everyone

    Afternoon all,
    Well, started off brilliantly today, but have since wilted, so will get this posted, then self-administer a giant kick up the bum.
    Today's list of small things:
    *Left tablet & phone plus chargers right where I'd fall over them on getting out of bed, thus reminding me to plug them in & charge them while still on Economy 7 tariff. (Nearly trod on tablet, but this strategy did work!)
    *Shared bath water.
    *Bathroom heating off as soon as morning bathroom ablutions completed! No other heating on until at least 5pm.
    *Bedroom storage heaters turned down an extra notch as it was plenty warm enough & savings made by turning them down definitely shows up in my weekly meter readings.
    *Breakfast was porridge using huge bag of yellow-stickered oats I bought the other week, plus homemade pear & cinnamon compote from freezer, which I made to use up our glut of pears.
    *Pulled leeks, the last few carrots & cut probably the last cucumber from the garden.
    *Make apple sauce from 4 huge windfall apples picked up earlier.
    *Free exercise, as spent 2 hours clearing & weeding one of my big flower borders. Replanted a gap with a dozen self-sown foxgloves. Love self-sown stuff (apart from weeds!) as can fill up gaps with lovely free stuff.
    *Did lots of surveys.
    *Meals as per meal plans - I knew that extra cottage pie I bunged in the freezer would come in useful.
    *Do meal plans for next week.
    *Write shopping list for tomorrow.
    *Save electricity on hoovering by not doing it......no, not me being lazy, I usually do my big house clean on Friday, but we're hoping to clear the pond out tomorrow, so what's the point hoovering today when we're going to be trailing gunk in all over my clean floors? Big Clean Day swapped to Monday rather than hoover twice.
    *Explain to cat he is NOT having the lounge fire on when he's got a perfectly good cat bed upstairs next to a radiator. (Stern voice worked! He's now up there snoring his ears off!)
    Right, just got to administer myself that kick up the bum, then on with my day. Hope you're all having a decent Friday.

    2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
