Solicitor for a remortgage

Hi all

This probably sound dumb but am in the process of remortgaging with Abbey. They are paying the legal fees. It is a straight forward change of lenders. When I got the paperwork through from the solicitors, it said that they were acting on behalf of Abbey and that I should get my own solicitor. Is this really necessary as I am trying to avoid too many costs?

    That is correct.

    Abbey have instructed the solicitor to conduct conveyancing business for them. Proceed if you have it in writing that it is a fee legals deal.
