Arrears question

Options
A bit of background....

My 18 yr old son left my household in July & went to live with his dad. I relinquished child benefit & tax credits immediately & his dad now gets them. My son is at college until next year (19 in August so still in receipt of child benefit)

He was paying me maintainence but this stopped & finalised with around £150 arrears outstanding. I am now the NRP & have been assessed at £31 per week. I have also been told there are arrears of £500 from when my son left my house & went to his Dads. I was unaware of these arrears until today when the CSA contacted me.

Can the arrears that he owes me be offset against the arrears calculated against me. I have been told that its not possible but to me it would make sense.

Also is there any chance the CSA would accept a part payment towards the arrears.

Any replies would be appreciated
