I suspect that the Asda deli pizza bases are either chilled or frozen.

I get the asda roll out pizza dough for £1.30 (enough for 4 people) and jar of pasta sauce.....add some grated cheese and own topping..just as nice.
Note Asda instore pizzas don't use fresh bases - they are frozen ones defrosted (no idea why they say they can be re-frozen?)

Asda freshly made are the best in my opinion. Sainsburys are the worst-taan be moths old.steless with hardly any topping on the last one I had.
I wont buy frozen ones as they are all made either in Poland or Thailand and can be months old.

Urgh, really? never knew that. What brands make them in those countries?

I make my own pizza bases/basil pesto and whatever veg is in the fridge. Shop bought pizzas seem incredibly expensive for what they are - though have had the occasional Waitrose one with the family. I thought Morrisons ones were awful.

Kirri OH used to have the Waitrose frozen organic Margherita pizza and add extra toppings and that's only organic frozen pizza I know of.

I have found (but yet to order) Werz organic gluten free four grain pizza bases 2 for 2.29 or 6 ie 3 packages of 2 bases for 6.42 from https://www.ulula.co.uk

asda "freshly" made pizzas use frozen bases...seen the lady myself take them out of the box to stock in the chiller cabinet for defrosting

Yeah thats right, one of my friends is responsible for the whole of the Pizza buying for one of the big supermarkets. Also you may be interested to know that the turnover is well over a million pounds per day for the ready made pizzas in that supermarket.

Im going to ask at Asda if their bases are frozen and if so where are they made next time I go.

Asda do excellent create your own pizzas and are the best I've come across. Can choose deep pan/stonebaked/stuffed crust/thin and crispy etc and loads of different toppings. Good prices too 2 for £4 on 10 inch and £3.50 each on 14 inch.
I'd agree with this, although I bought two 10" ones just last week where you choose your own toppings and the cost was £3.50 each for deep pan American sizzler with extra jalapenos and extra spicy beef and no oil.
  • The handmade supermarket pizzas always seem to have the toppings dumped on instead of being evenly spread out across the pizza. I make my own at home or use local takeaway.

I tried asking asda a few times if defrosted food can be refrozen - no answer. But the instore pizzas are labelled as "can be frozen" ..I always read food can be refrozen when defrost!
But I do think the pizzas are good value and tasy. Tesco and morrisons instore pizzas are also good!
  • Bread products are safe to refreeze when thawed so no risk with the frozen bases by Asda.
