I am thinking of trying something new that could take me into retirement in ten years or so when I can just do a bit without too much work.

What is involved in becoming and IFA?

It's been a long time since I was authorised, and I imagine that the requirements have become more stringent.

Are you thinking about setting up on your own or just looking for a job with an existing firm?

At the very least you will need to pass the relevant qualifications and probably also have a squeaky clean credit report.

A post on the Insurance forum might get you up to date requirements as there are a number of IFAs lurking in there.
