Best type of Christmas tree lights

Options
I've just bought some LED fairy lights which I've been told are better than the older type (not sure what they're called) because the bulbs won't blow and they'll last longer. However, upon plugging them in, I've noticed that they seem to be not quite as bright as my older type fairy lights. Is this normal for LED's? I've tried 2 different sets so I don't think they're faulty. Has anyone else noticed this? Are there any favourite types/brands that are brightest and reliable?

To me LED lights tend to seem brighter/blinding (and sometimes a bit less Christmassy). Maybe there are different looking types of LEDs.

I use a mixture around the house, but I prefer the old type.

Maybe there are different types of LED lights? Mine have a flat round top, not candle/fluted old style type. Also, the actual transparent bulb part is small compared to the old type. Perhaps this is the problem.

Last week, I put up some replacement LED lights in our garden room and they definitely are less bright than the old ones. I think they're more soft white which is fine with us as they stay up all year round - just took a bit of getting used to :)

Just as an aside - I've never come across anything more difficult than fairy lights when trying to put back into the original box to store :)
