Hi Paulies Girl,
I watched it this evening and really enjoyed it. Ds who is doing WW2 at school this year was fascinated too.
As there is a discussion about the programme going on in Thriftlady's wartime thread, I'll add this thread to it.

Here you go I am going to watch it again later as I missed most of it! That veg pie did sound pretty good...!...Just to add I think the comments they both made at the end of the programme made up for its shortcomings.JAN GC- £155.77 out of £200FEB GC £197.31 out of £180:o. MARCH GC - out of £200

Sue Perkins is a comedienne, did you really expect the programme to not try to be funny? Yes it was trivialised , but it was a very Sue Perkins type programme. Her brand of humour, does not do it for me.
However I did find the information on National Restaurants interesting and felt thst in view of the info that the public ate out upto 4 times a week the 1940's house had an unfair disadvantage.
I suppose in the country there wouldn't have been the National Restaurants, but certainly my Mum who stayed on a farm at the time talked about Farmer Jones making sure they ate well!
Sorry I think they were called British Restaurants.0 -
I don't remember my mum mentioning the National Restaurants so I expect they were just in the bigger cities.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

Mu husband bought a book called 'We'll Eat Again' for his mum a couple of years ago full of WW2 recipes - she thought it was marvellous and dug out someof the recipes she had used during WW2. Some of them were a bit wierd to say the least but a couple of them were OK.0

Just been watching the 1940s house on the history channel, and it reminded me of this thread. Rationing has just come in, so looking forward to next weeks episode.
Had images of thrithlady's followers (many doing the 4k challenge) all donning aprons and pinnies, and it made me look forward more to my move when I will have a garden to start growing my own fruit and veg.19th March 2007 LBM£5,969.63 1st January 2018 £5960.18, 1st January 2019 £11,032.0018th August 2023 £12,435.00, Student Loan £22244.00 From 2009-12Challenges: To learn to stop spending..0
