  • I'm only in my thirties but I am fascinated by how people coped during the war with rationing, (and without a tesco's across the road).

I haven't read through all the posts but when I get an hour to myself I will as I'd love to be more economical with my cooking.

Thanks for such a great thread.

Thank you to Thriftlady for starting this thread and to all who have contributed :)

I only glanced at this thread a couple of times when it started up, but the children and I have been watching 'The 1940s House' and we were talking about rationing and how interesting it would be to try a wartime diet for a week, when I remembered this thread.

It took a long time, but I have read through it and have made notes of post numbers to go back to in order to copy recipes and ideas. I have really enjoyed reading this and wanted to post to thank you all for shareing your ideas, recipes and stories, and to pull it back to the first couple of pages of the forum, in case anyone new missed it - it really is a fantastic thread.

I too have spent the last 2 days reading this thread.

DS2 is having a class trip to Eden Camp in North Yorkshire as they are studying WW2. www.edencamp.co.uk

We actually went last summer whilst staying near Pickering.Very good day out, have the Mess hall up and running as the restaurant serving some wartime foods.
Would say be there for opening time as you will easily fill the day.

I keep thinking I would do this experiement as well with our food plan for a week. Might give it a go.
