Appraisals and Pay Reviews

Good Morning,
My Manager advised me yesterday that my appraisal will be coming up very soon and I was given some realistic goals to attain prior to this. My Manager advised that these appraisals are important when it comes to pay reviews which happen one month later.
This is new to me as in previous places of employment there were no pay reviews and appraisals were paper pushing exercises. My question is has anyone here had appraisals that impact their pay reviews and if so what was the outcome?
Thank you.

Absolutely. Every year. My pay is pretty much completely discretionary, and depends very much on my performance. My appraisals are the formal opportunities to set my goals, discuss how I am doing against them, and negotiate pay levels for the next year.
The outcome varies. This year the EU want to severely limit what the bank can pay me, so we'll see.0 -

Percentage wise what sort of adjustments have you received to your salary and how did you justify receiving this?0 -
It will be different in every different company.0

For the first ten years, I averaged 50% rise per year. In 2007 it dropped about 80%, and since then has jumped up and down 30-40%
My industry's a bit of an outlier, though, most places will only be looking to change things by a percent or two based on performance each year.0 -

No we would get the rise or not as the case may be in April and the appraisal in July!!!We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Cotta - you need to look at how you have performed against the targets you were set.
Your manager will be able to tell you exactly what is expected.
Lots of companies have performance related pay enhancemant.0 -

This is exactly right - no point canvassing for opinions because pick a number between 0 and 100% and someone would have got that as a rise. Some negatives in there too probably.
Realistically, anything inline with or slightly above inflation is always welcome.Thinking critically since 1996....0
