When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Morning! Seems I'm the resident starter at the moment! Always up so early with dgd :) Hurrah it's Thursday :j I have my probation meeting today which I think it's pretty certain I'm going to pass :j (my boss sent me the paperwork and it's all very complimentary! :T

Things for today
* checked banking - no change
* all meals from stores. Need to grab something from the freezer
* lunch will be hm soup
* load of washing & hang up
* call some skips for a quote
* transfer £2000 to oh's mum's bank account :T
* start 30 day shred
* paint skirting board in kitchen - so annoying have loads of little jobs in the rooms we have decorated which I never get round to!
* stick to diet - have been doing ww but just on my own. Almost done a week! So proud of myself as haven't been able to stick to a diet for ages!
* take dgd's buggy out of car - do not want to drive around with that petrol guzzler!
* early night!

Ok think that's everything I want o achieve today. Happy Thursday y'all x

    Morning all :)

After a pretty awful day yesterday emotionally I'm still here and getting ready for a brand new day. Today I'm taking a slower pace and giving myself a bit of a break from the pressure. That said I'm not about to go splashing the cash!

    Already checked bank
    B/l/d from stores
Not going to SW, going to put my feet up
Pack for weekend away at parents (a few miles away but not here so a break)
put refund cheque in bank (lunchtime wander)
    Hopefully NSD
look for Roadkill on lunchtime wander (several pubs and shops en route to bank)

That's it for now. Possibly more later but the fact that I'm out of bed at all after yesterday's emotional storm is an achievement.

    Here's to a much better day :)
    Kate x

Edited to add: have deactivated Facebook account. It's full of adverts and people either whining or bragging or gossiping and I don't need that right now.

Morning everyone, a brand new day has begun!
It is wet outside but not raining so washing on line as usual. the neighbours think something is wrong if my washing is not out! goes out every dry day summer or winter.

Up early today so I have made a start on the choirs. Cleaned bathroom. washed morning dishes, washing machine on.
Still to do, the job I always seem to put off, mop the floors. All Lino, laminate down stairs and then the bathroom floor.

Waiting for gas engineer this morning. The radiators are not heating up hot enough. WE could let the air out of the pipes ourselves but pay for a contract so using it.

Quidco have sent an email, Paying £1.10 into by bank this week.

Spend! :0( Last night bought some coloured cotton thread for my sewing machine.White thread too! came to nearly £30. Should last a wile.
I am going to start embroidery stitching on my new fancy machine. I have been practicing ;0).

Checked the fridge = dinner = bacon, egg, tomato and mushrooms.
Ate the loaf crust as toast this morning. Gone are the days when the crust goes in the bin.

Craft today = make up the little pink bag on the sewing machine. Try and put the zip in! Have not done zips since school days.

Exercise = puppy walking. She was so good last night NO PUDDLES again.
Puppy training = Bonnie can sit, give me a paw, lie down and roll over for belly rub all on command.Half way to sit and wait wile walk out of room.

right! quicker I start on those floors! soon will be done! Completed task and the floors look much nicer for about 10 minutes. till OH comes back from walk with puppy.

Even done some indoor gardening. Dead headed some flowering geraniums and taken off brown leaves.
The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)

    Afternoon Money-savers,
Trying to get back to my routines today after a nice little break away.
    Today's small positive things:
*Collected cat from cattery. Small daily discount for supplying own food. Remembered to bring rest of food home with us.
*Baked bread rolls, also loaf in bread maker just starting to smell nice.
*Baked chocolate orange cake for mr f to take to work tomorrow because everyone needs cheering up.
*mr f has heard today that despite more horrendous cuts at work, his job looks like it will be safe for another year, maybe two. Big weight off shoulders, but we both like to see everything in writing first & also can't help feeling sorry for colleagues who will be affected (some of them are my ex-colleagues too)
*Resisted grocery shopping till Saturday, which is normal shopping day. Took cottage pie out of freezer for tomorrow, spicy chickpea burgers I batch-cooked the other week & froze for dinner tonight, in home made rolls with spicy stir-fried veg.
*All remaining pears that we could reach now picked & brought indoors.
*Picked a courgette from garden to chuck into the stir-fry.
*Storage heaters seem to be working, so turned them down a couple of notches in rooms we use & right down to a low setting in the spare bedroom. Can't see the point in keeping that toasty when we're barely in it.
*Carry on knitting sock, so I can tick Christmas Present no. 7 off my list.
*Caught up with a few surveys. Almost at £40 cash-in level on One-poll again, so every one counts at the moment!
So not much from me today. Going to get the cake decorated now & maybe treat myself to the leftover chocolate buttons :-)

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!

Thanks Ziggy. It's not been a magnificent day but I've achieved everything on my list except the packing which I'll do when littlies are in bed as they don't know we're going :)

I can just do without the constant stream of chatter from Facebook. Means I'll contact non-local friends by phone and text for a week or two and might not bother switching it back on.

Just about to tuck into dinner and then a snuggle with DD2 and the second half of the movie we started watching on Tuesday. I'm really just wallowing and getting it out of my system. I already feel much better than this morning but I'm incredibly tired so early night for me once the packing is done. EVERYTHING is better after a good sleep :)
