Invited to be a witness

As in title:
I have been invited to be a witness at a disciplinary hearing, the invitation indicates that I am 'entitled to be accompanied by a representative'.
Why, as a witness, would I need someone to accompany me?
TIA

Ok you are going to give a statement of some sort that will form part of someone else's disciplinary, yes?

You are entitled to have someone with you in case your record or events is miss recorded or they say something to you etc.

Hi, if you're in a union ask for a union representative. If not, a work colleague, but it will be confidential and they cannot talk to others about the hearing.

The representative doesn't talk on your behalf. Your statement will have been submitted as part of the paperwork and you will be asked questions about your statement.

Not every witness called brings a representative with them to a disciplinary. But it is a supportive measure and you may feel more comfortable having someone in with you.

  • You are entitled to ask prior who the discplinary interview is against & further info so you can prepare or think any event through. You shouldnt need a witness unless it is something very "significant" that you can add to proceedings. Usually it is only based on pure facts so as a witness this should be very straightforward - but up to you if you feel that you dont want to be misrepresented in anyway.
  • Thankyou all who replied. I have spoken to my union rep who will be there with other witnesses, so hopefully it will not be too stressy.
    Many Thanks again. :)
