VW beetle
Unfortunately, our vw lupo 1.4 which we have owned since 1999 is looking like it will have to go. Running rough, just had part of exhaust and CAT replaced. Garage put on machine, nothing picked up, thought valve. Engineer looked at all ok, can't find why not running right. Suggested could be piston but would be a lot to strip engine down and this not be the problem. My Hubby therefore wants to get rid, take my 02 Yaris which I have owned since 04 and has been superb and me get something new. I have always wanted a VW beetle. quite happy with 1.4 but he is putting me off. Insurance for Yaris 139 fully comp (15% disc as Unison member) . says will be a lot more to tax/insure/run and wants me to get something sensible. I really want a Beetle? Who owns one? Do you recommend?
Thanks

the old beetle with the air cooled engines were amazing, these new ones are not the real beetles.0

Will seem like a bit of a downgrade you having a VW after a Toyota. I'd have the Yaris and palm the beetle off to the Husband (or even better, get something decent). Why a Beetle rather than a Golf?0

Are we talking classic beetle or modern. Its easy to do some insurance quotes before you buy to find cost. As for tax its just case of setting your budget find what year cars are in your budget and go on direct gov to find your tax amount. I shouldn't think there too much difference insurance cost wise, but who knows.0

I was thinking of something like an 05 plate. I just have always liked Beetles! I suppose I am looking for someone to say they are too expensive to insure/run etc. I should think sensible and get another Yaris. My 02 plate has been great. 84k on now, still got original exhaust! never had any trouble, only have it serviced every 2 years0

check for common beetle problems online then you may change your mind0

OK. They're less practical, less well built, more expensive to repair after accident damage, less comfortable, smaller inside, less well-equipped and more expensive to insure than an equivalent Golf of the same era upon which they're based.0 -

compared to the yaris? could put a yaris inside the beetle its that smaller than the beetle in comparison.
Op you can find different interior specs and exterior packs on a variety of beetles.
avoid 2.0 engines less economical.
compared to the yaris it will be more expensive to insure and tax that's a given and must be expected for such a engine and size change.0 -

No, to the (and I quote) "equivalent Golf of the same era upon which they're based".
I thought that was pretty clear?
The OP wasn't asking for comparisons against the Yaris, or indeed against anything else. I was just using the Golf as the comparator to the Beetle because it was convenient.0 -

even compared to the golf inside is pretty much the same space if not a little bigger in the back.0 -

Apart from the low roofline and narrowness, that is?0
