Anyone any ideas how I do this?
My local council aren't interested as it's neither a "household battery" nor a "car battery", but I'm loathe to just bung it into the bin for landfill.

Sainsburys and several other major supermarkets have battery recycling, they will accept laptop batteries.
Curry, PC World and the like also have battery recycling.
Since 2010 any UK store showing the "Be Positive" (symbol of a standard battery), motive will recycle batteries.
Take a look at the ERP website, they may be able to place a colletion point in your local area.
When your local council MP comes calling for votes , complain about their battery recycling policy.0 -
I just replace the lithium cells in the battery with new ones and then recycle the cells. Far cheaper than buying a new laptop battery I can tell you!0
