in Cutting tax
Hi,
I am employed as a PAYE agency worker (lorry driving) , and i have to buy my own safety equipment (boots, hi viz coats , gloves etc..), also i have to get a digital tacho card (for driving trucks) at a cost of £38 for 5 years  , then £19 every 5 years, (another stealth tax), and a medical when i reach 45
question is can i claim tax or get an allowance from tax man?
I remember from years ago (about 20) i had some sort of tax coding regards work items????
Had a quick search not sure if P87 document is one i want
TIA
Andy

If you phone someone at the IR they will advise, they are really helpful.. or check out the HMRC website.0

I agree with The Waltons. No harm in phoning HMRC.
P87 is probably the right form, but you can quite easily just send a letter with the pertinent details on it. Make sure you keep the receipts.
Most of the items should be eligible for a tax deduction. The only problem might be the boots, unless there is some reason that you have to have these specific boots for driving and they are not suitable for everyday use.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -
Just got off phone to local tax office, all i need to do is send a letter explaining my situation, that i have to supply my own equipment as it where, and i should get an additional allowance.
And boots are needed as most companys require drivers to be wearing them0 -

Sounds good. Make sure in your letter you claim for previous years as well and not just the last tax year.
They usually take 4 to 6 weeks to process something like this.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0
