Poor credit married to good credit and applying for a mortgage

Hi,

I thought I would check my credit score prior to mortgage application and was shocked to see a poor credit score. It turns out Virgin have posted an arrears for 2 months about 14 months ago when I moved house and cancelled my contract with them. This was settled and they said it wouldnt go on my record (over the phone).

Also HSBC have marked me as 'arrangement to pay' on a credit card which had a balance of zero for the past 6 months???

Meanwhile My wife (excellent credit with no blemishes) and I have found an amazing house and have had an offer accepted.
We have a 10% mortgage joint income 99k

Questions:
1) How long will it take to get errors corrected on my file if the creditor agrees?

2) Are there any lenders who might approve us if my blemishes remain even if my wife has excellent credit rating?

Oh, and also I just want to say, I HATE virgin. Thanks

Did you have an arrangement to pay with HSBC at any time?

As for Virgin. Contracts normally run for specified periods of time such as 12 months. Unfortunately moving house doesn't mean that the liability is cancelled. Full settlement still has to be made even if the service isn't transferred. You would encounter the same issue with other service providers.
  • Thanks,

I had finished my 12 month contract with virgin and cancelled a month prior over the phone and they had not cancelled correctly.

I have not had an arrangment to pay with HSBC.
