Remortgaging

Having resolved a separation dispute with an ex I'm now ready to remortgage to fixed rate as house is in my own name and borrow a little to pay for home improvements I've made on my credit card....been to see two lenders so far and have been out within 5mins so losing the will....
Nationwide - won't lend/look at lending unless I was looking to borrow at least £10k on top of my existing mortgage balance....the only way round that would be if I were to take the £10k and what I didn't need pay it back in to the mortgage as an overpayment....really??? I questioned her integrity and was glad to leave!
Yorkshire Building Society - felt discriminated against by them....so as I own my home in my own name but am married and my husband lives with me...they won't lend to me on that basis and insist on joint mortgage!
What now? My existing provider Halifax aren't as competitive as the search engine results

First question is the mortgage affordable based on your current financial circumstances?
Second is why not add your husband to the mortgage. Not adding will raise more questions than answers.0 -

Why question her integrity? Perfectly sensible solution0 -
Thanks for replies
Mortgage is affordable in my own name.... it's the only debt I have in addition to household bills.
I won't add husband....5 yr legal battle and £3k bill to transfer title from my ex...would never do joint again! I'm not looking to discuss my relationship status nor reasoning, looking for remortgage solution so would prefer to stick with that in this thread
As for integrity of nationwide MA, advising me to borrow £10k I didn't need just so I could fit their lending criteria and commit myself to an additional £60 per month unnecessarily isn't how I roll....0 -

My questions are rhetorical so not expecting answers on a public forum. There's often a gulf between the way borrowers view their situation and that of lenders that's all.0 -
No worries
I have been paying the same amount myself for the last 4 years, given my salary and age I am within the affordability calculators online but understand lenders would want to seek comfort in remortgaging me as a new customer from my existing lender0
