Has anyone tried to arrange a mortgage abroad for a home in uk

I've heard more and more people are finding ways to mortgage their houses abroad is this legal and if so is it any good or are other countries interest rate too crazy to consider this.
I have a french partner so if its possible translation wont be a problem and when we next travel to france i intend to visit a bank to find out the details.

You will not get a French bank to lend at anything resembling a sensible rate on a UK property. And even if you did, you would be exposed to the exchange risk of borrowing in Euro, with a Sterling income and a Sterling based asset.
All in all, this isn't a good idea, andy.0
