Claiming back overpaid tax from a long time ago

Hello,

Bit of a weird question...

I'm sure I'm owed a tax rebate from about 3 years ago. I've moved house 7 times since 2003 (legitimate reasons, being a student, moving for work etc) so I'm worried that a rebate cheque may have been sent when I've left a previous residence.

I'm wondering if anyone has had an success from enquiring about historic tax that they believe they are owed? It's only a hunch that I'm owed tax back, is it worth the hassle? Will I need all my P50s?

    I had a letter sent to me in 2007 that I found this year and sent back about a tax rebate - unfortunately it turned out I wasn't due it back, mix up by them about work benefits etc, but they still investigated it.
