Getting shafted by Dell...where's me free colour printer?

Just bought the one of the Dell Deals 1 and a half weeks ago (MMMUK4 - D04302b): Pentium 4 3.0Ghz, 512 MBRAM, 17inch TFT etc. Was promised a free printer on top of the free delivery and 50 quid off. The offer expired 2-3 ago.

Phoned Dell Cust. Care twice, on every occasion they promised to get back to me . Never have. I even threatened with Trading Standards. They asked if I clicked the deal on the 'free printer' option on the page, but it wasn't given. Instead there was a banner next to the PC advertising free delivery, money off and a free printer.

Does anyone know how can I claim this free printer or file a complaint? Dell Customer Care doesn't seem to respond. Who do I speak to ? Trading Standards?

Be careful when buying from Dell.

This is online trading standards and are pretty good - you will probably hear tomorrow if you contact them via the site.www.consumercomplaints.org.uk

A pal of mine ordered a laptop from them over the phone, a couple of weeks later they told him they wanted another £200 for it before they'd deliver it.

He told them what to do with it!

Phone Dell customer care and don't give up. They will send you the printer to get you off the phone. Make them go on the website and show them the bit where it tells you which models are excluded from the free printer offer and ask them where it says dell dimension 3000 series. It worked for me.

I am sorry to hear of your experience buying from Dell.I would try once more
    in contacting them.Firstly visit https://www.saynoto0870.com
There you will be able to get the local area number for there customer services (I believe there are four different numbers listed).Make sure you get the persons name and their position in the department. Then ask them to call you back immediately. You will need to get some sort of response from Dell before you decide to pursue this through your Trading Standards office. At least your officer will have something to work from. There could just be a geniune oversight which is frustrating you especially that staff are not calling you back.Call staff can sometimes forget they to are customers. You have had a bad experience.Rise again get a good nights sleep and prepare for Tuesday's battle.Try to be as kind as you can.I'm sure they will help you.Oh and welcome to MSE.You may want to visit https://www.18866.co.uk if you want to really save some cash on your calls and register.
Try also to use MSE links like https://www.rpoints.co.uk so that this site can benefitand assist in keeping this site free. These cashback sites will also give you cashback which you may not be aware of. Other cashback sites are also mentioned here and good luck.I will be intrested on how you get on:j

I'm pretty sure the free printer offer was only valid for certain computers, not sure if your one was included tho'
  • Dell are a reputable company, no need for trading standards, you just have to deal with the inertia at the call centre. As advised by others, this means going through the geographic number at 0 pence per minute so you don't get stressed about the cost, and preferably on a cordless phone so you can get on with your life at the same time.

Ask the operative to tell you what they have on your notes from your last call, then patiently move on from there. Three or four polite calls over a week worked for me.

I wouldn't worry about the printer its more trouble than its worth. Cartridges are nigh-on £20, compatibles are few and far between - and not much cheaper! Go and get yourself a cheap Canon printer.
  • i bought a pc from Dell just over a month ago - and it was flawless, from ordering to delivery. Very happy

:j Spoke to them today (Indian call centre), a day after I received my PC. The fella was too polite and after a brief explanation he gave it to me out of 'goodwill' which is pure rubbish and reminded me in future to quote the E-Value No when placing my order to qualify for the special offer! Once again, pure nonsense.

I should receive it in 3-4 days apparently.

Dell knows it's clearly at fault for this blunder.

ps. The printer not only prints, but has a built in scanner and a photocopier and is worth approx. £50-60
