~£10,000 Loan

Cant you get qualified in the UK ie Scotland during this skiing season?
A loan is not going to happen, and wouldn't have happened even when banks were throwing money at people before the credit crunch. You are way too a high risk borrower.0 -

Yet you want a long term loan............
Get saving. Is my advice.0 -

If you are intending to stay on in your job to repay the loan then, yes, you can afford the repayments - but would be better just saving the money because you don't need it until you leave your job to 'follow your dreams'.
If you are intending to go to Canada as soon as possible, then I would consider you as being out of work and unable to meet repayments - and the bank would too.0 -

To be honest, I know I can pay that loan back, they know I can pay the loan back. The only reason that I can't get a loan is because lending criteria right now is so strict. Banks don't want to take any risks any more because of the financial situation in the country.
I'm just frustrated that the only way I can possibly get out and do what I want to do for the rest of my life is to sit and do something I hate for a year or two.
I'd rather kill myself than sit working in an office for the next 2 years. No offence to anyone here that does do work like that, but I really am set on the snowboarding career path. I did my degree to be sensible and it's just been a massive waste of time and money.
I hate how much stick people put on getting 'qualifications'. Having been to university I can say that it's a heap of !!!! and not worth half a year working in the university of 'life'.
Oh grow up! If you want something in life then you have to work for it. If that means doing a job you dislike in order to afford to do something you'll love then get on with it. If you hate your job that much then change jobs. A year or two is not going to hurt you - as you said, you've got 50 years ahead of you.
So - you can't get a loan. What's Plan B? If that fails then you move onto Plan C...
And you're going to need a visa to work in Canada as a snowboard instructor anyway, they're an !!! to get, so you may as well get some practice in by working out there now... unless you can get more money in the UK.
Have you considered what you'll do with the other 6 months of the year? What if you only get 10 hrs of lessons a week? How will you live?
If this is what you really want to do then quit moaning and get on and do it!Debt-free 27th July 2012!0 -

I just see no route to do what I want to do with my life and I have 50 years ahead of me. Its depressing as hell.
Oh grow up!
Everyone has to make some kind of sacrifice to get what they want! Or are you different?
Most people don't want to do the jobs they do, but need to because they live in the real world.
Get a job for a couple of years, save up and then risk your own money to pursue your dream career.0 -
Oh the dreams of youth.....
I have been sitting in an office for 22 years now doing a job I loathe - where did it all go wrong? Well the answer is of course big mortgage, wife & 3 kids.
If you are going to pursue your dream good luck to you - go ahead and do it now while you are young and free - you will find a way to get out there even if you have work nights stacking shelves! Could you do the training in Europe? i.e. cheaper travel, no visa etc0 -
Seriously, you need to start living in the real world. If you really really want something you have to work hard to achieve it - that's how real life works.
Get a job here, get a second job such as bar work in the evenings and budget budget budget. Save up the money with the incentive of following your dream and it'll be all the much sweeter when you achieve it. We all have to make sacrifices and work towards our dreams rather than being handed them on a plate.
Good luck!Determined to save and not squander!

Where is the demand for all these "Snowboarding Instructors" anyway?
I'm sure there are some on each snow covered ski slope we all drive past everyday but is there enough to end up £10k in debt and make a good living out of as a career?
Sounds more like the whole concept of working for a living is scaring you to death, literally so if you are considering killing yourself if you have to do a real job for an eye watering two whole years.
Messing about on snowboards all day sounds a much more appealing "career".0 -
Welcome to reality where good stuff doesn't come for free. Your attitude is that life owes you for some reason, that you deserve what you want without having to pay (or work) for it. If you are so keen to get into winter sports for the rest of your life then 2 years would not be 'wasted', it's just the cost of getting towards your dream.kierangiles wrote: »I don't really want to waste 2 years of my life saving for something doing what I hate when I could be starting my new career doing what I love...
Anything except wait or work or pay.Anyone got any advice for me? I'd literally do anything right now.
So what did university get you? Presumably 3 years of pretty good living (I can't believe you spent the entire time studying), a job that pays more and could let you save more quickly so that you can do what you want sooner than if you had tried to get a job straight from school, funded by a loan that you might never have to pay back (because after all you'll be working overseas earning too little to have to pay it back),Having been to university I can say that it's a heap of !!!! and not worth half a year working in the university of 'life'.
Do you have any idea what real mental illness and despair is like?I'd rather kill myself than sit working in an office for the next 2 yearsloose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0
