Mortgage Approved in one appointment with Yorkshire Bank

Hi all,

Long time lurker and thought I would share a good experience.

After selling our house and moving into rented in June 2012, we were pleased Yorkshire Bank classed us as a FTB.

With no fee, free valuation, £250 cash back on completion and 3.99% fixed for 3 years with a 10% deposit, we thought it would be a long, thorough and very strict process getting the mortgage.

After a short telecon and 7 day wait for appointment, our mortgage was approved and valuation instructed and booked all in the same day! No under writer approval necessary. Just the usual salary slips and debt info was required. No stupid requests like we have encountered recently, particularly with building societies.

The total opposite to the Furness Building Society who were a nightmare to deal with and wanted the ins and outs of a Ducks proverbial. Some of their requests were ridiculous and after 2 weeks of hassle after our mortgage application we just ditched them and thank goodness Yorkshire bank were so good to deal with!

What a great experience.

When did you receive a formal mortgage offer? The same day?
  • Not sure that you technically had a formal mortgage offer as your valuation needs to be done for that...
  • Yes sure, but the process to get to valuation was very smooth and completely opposite to the building societies.

Fingers cross for the survey, but having rented the house we are buying, we know we got it for a good price as owner wants a quick sale.

I think there's a fair bit more to go.

Chelsea didn't even look at my stuff till the valuation came through. Then they didn't have a clue.

Sounds like how most lenders work.

Underwriters can be involved after valuation.

So don't count any chickens until you get the written offer.
