  • We are told to shop around for the best deals on annuities , but in reality that's not an option.
... in my experience I have proved to know more than some IFA whose advice has always ben biased to there advantage not mine, and in one particular case down right wrong !

I can Appreciate the government stepping in to control pension providers, but its at the end stage such as this that need the attention just as much.

It is my experience over 40 years of pension savings - is that the only people that have made anything from my pension are the assurers and it has been a great big CON

Why is it not an option to shop around? If you know more than some IFAs why are you asking for advice? If you find a decent IFA then you will not be wrongly advised. Have you thought of which type of annuity you would like? I work for an IFA company and in my experience you are worse off looking for your own annuity. Often IFAs are able to get you better rates but as people before have mentioned - it all depends on age, postcode, health issues etc. There's a lot more to it than you realise. You can often get better rates through IFAs as they can help you choose the right options for your circumstances.

You epitomise the relative uselessness of IFA's ... just for once ...try answering a question rather than asking them ...

On these boards IFAs cannot give advice or recommend products. So you asked dustonh a question that he could not answer.

Your original question was what to do - the answers are to leave it ( an annuity rate will be better the older you are),capped or flexible drawdown depending on your circumstances, or buy an annuity now.

It appears that you had already decided to buy an annuity

To choose an annuity you can either do it yourself or seek professional financial advice. You will not get anything more specific on this public forum.

If you were to answer his questions intelligently you might find his replies more useful.

They are only useless to those who don't actually know enough to see the reason for the questions.

Do you phone up Primark and say "I'd like some clothes please" and get angry when they ask you for your gender, size, articles of clothing needed? Do you then write angry posts on forums about how terrible clothes shops are when you end up with a pink summer dress for ages 8 - 10?

Pension and annuity's are personal products, they are unique to every individual, without any information on your personal circumstance how can someone help?
