Free nursery places for 3YO

A friend has been told by a friend of there's about some sort of government scheme that gives free places to a child of 3 at private nursery's. He did ask at the one nearest to him and they said they don't but he has been told all nursery's have to take part.

Anyone know anymore?

The term after a childs 3rd birthday s/he is entitled to 12.5 hours per week for x (39????) amount of weeks per year foc. A state (school) nursery will usually run for 2.5 hours 5 times a week. The funding can also be taken at a pre-school or private nursery, but if the sessions are longer than the 2.5 hours, you need to pay the difference. I am not sure if the sessions can be joined together now, it wasn't possible to do this when I had my eldest (now 7) but the rules may have changed. Try contacting your early years dept for intfo on how it works in your area.

Ask at your local state nursery as i know a few in our area from Sept are extenting their hours from 2.5 a day to 3.0 to compete with private nurserys.
