Vodafone admin error default and mortgage application

Hello,

I cancelled an account with Vodafone in February but a few months later realised payments were still being taken from my account. I phoned Vodafone who apologised, refunded my payments and assured me the account had now been cancelled. At this point I cancelled the direct debit.
In October I received a bill from Vodafone for the months since I cancelled the direct debit, the account had still not been cancelled!
I phoned Vodafone who apologised again, credited my account to cover the bill and assured me again the account had been cancelled and I would have no more problems.

Yesterday I got an email from Equifax to say there had been a change to my credit file. When I looked it showed there was a default on my Vodafone account. I immediately went on vodafones live chat and complained. The customer advisor I spoke to said he would email another department in Vodafone and ask them to mark my default as settled but it would take 8-10 days. I told him I wanted the default totally removed from my account as it was an error on their part, he said he would ask in the email.

Unfortunately this has come at a bad time for me as I am in the process of buying a house with my boyfriend. We had our mortgage offer from Nationwide last week and are now just waiting for the conveyancing.

I would like to ask anybody who is reading this if they think the default on my credit file will make an impact on our mortgage application? Could Nationwide revoke our mortgage offer if they check my credit history again and see a default? I'm hoping Vodafone remove the default from my file before it causes any problems.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

Did you follow the correct procedure for cancelling your contract?
  • Yes I followed correct procedure when cancelling and each time I have spoken to Vodafone they acknowledge that the contract should have been cancelled in February.
