I expect to see the number of accidental landlord decrease as the market improves, this is more than likely to put more pressure on the rental market and increase rents over the long term.

I agree, although it would be really helpful if they concentrated on those aggressive tax avoidance schemes that enable the likes of Google, Vodaphone and Starbucks to legally avoid tax, with the same vigour as overstretched homebuyers doing the best that they can to avoid re-possession.

You mean they should go easier on tax evasion than on tax avoidance?

Economy of scale will eventually drive the market.
  • BTL should be priced higher it is a commercial venture. Why shouldn't banks expect to rewarded as such.

Ok, but consider what impact that would have on Landlords and thus also their tenants.

Do you wish rents to be higher to fund the banks (lenders)?

If anything you should be wishing for lower rates such that there could be pressure / ease for landlords to reduce the rents.

Why would they wish for that? Evidence categorically shows that lower rates just meant landlords took more profit. Rents didn't fall, so it's a strange argument.

That's what happens when people invest and take calculated risks, they make a profit.

It seems only a few months ago that lots and lots of Insurance and Pension funds were 'expected' to flood the market with well priced, quality, long term rental properties.

But that was another day and another political soundbite.

Someone else who is wilfully misinterpreting what I said.:) I said they should tackle accidental landlords modest tax evasion with the same vigour as the deliberate, immoral and less modest tax avoidance of multi-nationals.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.
