Can we talk mops?

Not very exciting I know but......

We have a string mop and bucket which is used weekly to clean the kitchen floor by the cleaner. But we have pets - 2 dogs and 2 cats and the floor really needs to be mopped inbetween. DH already cares for me, works full time, does the shopping, cooking gardening, dog walking etc so I don't really want to ask him to mop the floor too.;)

My health is poor (hence the cleaner) and I would like to get a lightweight easy to use mop (no tiddling around with buckets of water, as I don't have much strenght in my arms).

I was thinking maybe one of the Lakeland ones
http://www.lakeland.co.uk/23662/Clean-n-Gleam-Floor-Mop
or a sponge one from Tesco
http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-premium-sponge-mop/151-8264.prd?pageLevel=&skuId=151-8264

Or possibly a steam mop - but are they a bit heavy? The mop needs to be light and easy to use. Any thoughts?

I have a shark steam mop, and dogs. I wouldnt go back to using a rag mop and bucket for all anything. In fact if mine broke it would be replaced with a day or two.

Sharks are lightweight and they just glide over the floors leaving them touch dry within seconds. No products used so money saving in the long run, and kind to furkids paws as well. x

PS I would go as far to say they are disabled friendly x

I have a shark steam mop, the sort that only does floors so it is light weight and easy to use. I have rheumatoid arthritis which affects my shoulders and arms and can use it even when I'm flaring. It is way better than the sponge or string sort as it never needs wringing out or squeezing which I find impossible. Only downside is the cost.

Thanks luxor4t, that's really handy to know - trouble with most mops is that they need squeezing in some way which I find difficult.

chris n tj, thanks will try Argos later - website down atm - too many people trying to buy apparently. Still the reviews on the Tesco and Lakeland sites indicate that the Shark mops are a good buy.

  • Are steam mops OK to use on wooden floors?

Edited to add.....ignore the question, I've just read the Tesco blurb which says they are

  • I use the Asda £25 steam mop, very lightweight and love it!

But my Sister has the V05 (£100) and that thing is just AMAZING and is definitely what I am getting next as I actually think it's worth every penny.

I'd avoid anything which needs detergent, because it's a cost that I think is unnecessary when the steam mops kill 99.9% of bacteria already.

I love that steam mops are so very light, and you don't have to bend over and I plug mine in on the counter... so great since I can't bend over at 9 months pregnant :D

If you do decide to get one, I bought my replacement mop pads at Dunelm Mill- they were cheaper than Tesco. That might have changed though.
