Dehumidifier

Hello gang
Sorry if this subject has been done to death but i need some advice.
We have an en suite without any windows and the door is always kept closed, but it just seems to stay damp and thus creates a smell. I've thought about buying a dehumidifier, but just not sure and wondered if you guys had any idea what i could do to help with the damp/smell?
leaving the door open isn't really an option due to our cats liking to go in there and it's right in front of our bed and it will get in the way.
Thanks in advance.

I use one in the kitchen to a) reduce condensation and thus mold on the blinds/curtains and b) dry washing during the night. Very worthwhile.
In an en-suite will you have anywhere to plug in? There shouldn't be any sockets in there.Mortgage free I: 8th December 2009!

Per above plugging one in may be a problem.
Maybe worth trying something like this first as they are relatively cheap compared to a "proper" dehumidifier and may help.

My experience of that type of dehumidifier is that they are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
we do have plugs in our bedroom which we could use and extension cord to reach the en suite if needs must, but the portable one sounds a great idea trying first. thanks for that0

What's the reason the cats can't go in their? Would leaving that door and shutting your bedroom door and leaving the window open for a while every day not help?Have a Bsc Hons open degree from the Open University 2015 :j:D:eek::T0

The cats aren't allowed in there cos they cause mischief and trouble by jumpng onto the top of the shower rail and won't come down and i can't reach!
I would prefer to keep the door to the en suite closed if i can sort out the problem, i have tried to leave the door open but DH keeps closing it if he leaves the house after me0 -
Portable dehumidifiers work well, there are cheapo ones for about £1.50 or better ones from people like B&Q for anything from a tenner up.:o0

For best results buy a dessicant dehumidifier, not a compressof kind, the dessicant ones are much quieter and more efficient. they start at about
£130 though0 -
Dont agree about the price I'm afraid. I buy these regularly for a family member and ones for under a tenner work just fine.0
