homemade Body Scrub advice

I am thinking of making some body scrubs as christmas presents. I have been looking at recipies and hints online but some advice from anyone who has made some would be great!
Do you prefer sugar or salt? I read salt scrubs can sting broken skin but sugar scubs can dissolve if the user gets the contents wet, so undecided which would be best. I am planning on using a light olive oil with it. I read that adding a little vitamin E oil helps preserve the scrub and I have seen a superdrug one for £2.99 that has good reviews.
How do you scent yours? Would adding lemon zest and peel affect the shelf life do you think?
Lastly, what containers do you use? I have been looking for reasonably priced kilner/mason type jars or does anyone use plastic jars?
Would love to hear anybody's thoughts

i'd use a kilner style jar (about 500ml) and with sugar as salt can be harsh on sensitive skin. rather than olive oil, coconut would act as an oil but also smell nice. maybe add a little bath oil ( a few drops) for extra scent.
Hope this helps0 -
Some cute small Kilner jars in Wilkos at a pound a time last I looked. Shop around - the same jar can cost an extra 80% at Lakeland!0

Thank you Vicky and DigforVictory, useful advice!
I looked in Wilkonsons today for kilner jars but there were hardly any left. I will go back again as I can't remember what they cost though.
I think sugar would be best, I will try a mix of granulated and brown sugar.
Anyone else made these before or have any good sources for jars?0 -
